Recognizing this, a groundbreaking study has delved into the world of Instagram to explore its potential as a tool for mental health support among university students.

    Mental Health Disclosures on Instagram

    Titled “If I was to post something, it would be too vulnerable:” University students and mental health disclosures on Instagram, this study sheds light on the intricate relationship between mental health concerns (MHCs) and the popular social media platform, Instagram. With mental health concerns largely peaking during young adulthood, it is crucial to uncover ways in which technology can be harnessed to provide support and foster well-being.

    Led by a team of passionate researchers from a private university in the Mid-Atlantic United States, with Alexandra Budenz as the corresponding author, this study goes beyond the surface-level understanding of Instagram usage. It aims to answer key research questions that delve into university students’ experiences, attitudes, and behaviors utilizing mental health services on Instagram. By analyzing both qualitative interview data and participants’ Instagram posts, the study provides valuable insights into the potential role of Instagram in supporting mental health needs.
