On the other hand, the study found that a plant-based diet that emphasizes less-healthy plant foods, including juices/sweetened beverages, refined grains, potatoes/fries, sweets, and animal foods was linked to a higher risk of CHD.

    These findings support the notion that plant-based diets can be beneficial in preventing CHD, but not all plant-based foods are created equal. It is important to choose healthy plant-based options, rather than simply replacing animal-based products with less-healthy plant-based alternatives. A healthy plant-based diet can provide all the essential nutrients the body needs, including protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber, without the harmful effects of saturated and trans fats, cholesterol, and other harmful substances found in animal products.
